Christian friends of the mentally ill

Advocacy, Health, and Meaningful Relationships for the Severely Mentally Ill

Project Elimisha Jamii

A mental health education program. One big barrier to mental illness is STIGMA, which happens due to lack of proper education. Our program targets schools and Traditonal Faith Healers, which are typically the first point of contact when someone experiences a mental health issue.

Project Furaha

A psychosocial program developed in conjunction with Siaya County Referral Hospital, which includes social events and peer support to those struggling with mental illness. By engaging with hospitalized patients and establishing relationships after being discharged, we are working to reintegrate them into the community.

Program Boma

A case management program focused on assisted outpatient treatment. We want to complement what the counties and families are already doing, as they are in the frontline of the war against mental illness. In areas where they are lacking, like follow-ups, we pair it with spirituality therapy in the African traditional way

Project Dawa

“Dawa” is a swahili word that means medicine. When we started working with Siaya County Referral Hospital, the need that came up repeatedly was medicine. Medicine helps individuals with severe mental illness to regain their functionality. Partnered with our Boma Program (case management), we work with individuals to get treatment, regain functionality, and prevent relapses.

Project Rafiki

“Rafiki” is a swahili word meaning friend. “Rafiki” is our volunteer program and we consider all our volunteers friends of the severely mentally ill. We offer the opportunity to engage in God’s mission of love by making life better for the severely mentally ill wherever they might be.

Project Ubuntu

Project Ubuntu is a therapeutic farm dedicated to helping adults with severe mental illness move towards recovery, health, and greater independence through meaningful work and clinical support. This is done within a safe family-like community made up of other peers, volunteers, and professionals.
